Teddy, 2023
Walnut wood, stain, polyester, epoxy resin, varnish, 33.25 cm x 26.75 cm x 7.25 cm
Teddy challenges the viewer to re-examine the value we assign to sentimental objects. As children, love is often expressed through gifts like stuffed teddy bears, which quickly become physical representations of our desires and aspirations. By shifting the teddy bear into fine art, it takes on a drastically different meaning—as a commentary on social, cultural, and political constructs. The natural grain of walnut clashes with the teddy’s artificial shape and glossy finish, revealing how human-made layers both preserve and distance us from nature. This tension exposes how comfort and commerce often mask a deeper disconnect from the natural world.
